Nicosia or Lefkosia in Greek, the capital of the Island lies roughly in
the centre of the Island, the last divided capital in the world. Rich
in History the old town of Nicosia within the 16th Century Venetian
walls is charming with many cafes, open- air restaurants, tavernas and
interesting small shops within the narrow streets and gracious old
buildings. The archaeological museum is world famous, the Cyprus tourism
Organisation has a tourist office in the old town and runs free walking
tours every Monday and Thursday. New Nicosia developed outside the walls
is a cosmopolitan business and cultural centre with fine restaurants,
cafés and great shopping.
