Day 1: Damascus

Arrive Damascus. Meet your driver and transfer to hotel in Damascus for overnight .

Day 2: Damascus

Full day tour of Damascus, the oldest continually inhabitied city in the world. Visit the old Umayyad mosque with the shrine of St John the Baptist, the Saladin Mausoleum and the exquisite 18th century Azem Palace with its charming courtyards and fountains. See also the national museum, the tiny chapel of St Ananias (the Saint who baptized St Paul), window of St Paul and the maze of covered souks and bazaars of the old city. A Panoramic view of the city from Mount Kassion will end the visits of this day. Overnight in Damascus.

Day 3: Palmyra

The caravan route between Damascus and the Euphrates lies Palmyra, an oasis in the Syrian desert. Visit the marvellous site with impressive ruins of a Roman city, temples, the museum, the colonnaded street, and the Arch of Triumph. It is here where Queen Zenobia, claiming descent from Cleopatra, launched her famous rebellion, only to be defeated by the Emperor Aurelian in 271A.D. Experience the panoramic view of the city at sunset from the nearby citadel. Overnight in Palmyra.

Day 4: Aleppo

Drive to the capital of the North, Aleppo. En route visit Hama, located on the Orontes River with its old Arabic waterwheels (the Norias). Continue via Aphamea, a Greco-Roman city and Ebla. Overnight in Aleppo.

Day 5: Aleppo

Tour of Aleppo city. Its souqs and khans thrived since the 3rd Century B.C. and are amongst the largest in the Middle East. Visit the citadel, the museum, the Grand mosque, caravan houses and the bazaar with its lively narrow alleys and the rich aroma of spices. In the afternoon visit the monastery of St. Simeon, where the saint spent 42 years of his life chained to the top of a column preaching twice a day. View the sunset colours over the monastery. Return to Aleppo for overnight.

Day 6: Krak des Chevaliers

Tour to Krak des Chevaliers region, one of the best preserved of all crusader castles, which once housed a garrison of 4000. Continue to Damascus for overnight.

Day 7: Departure

Transfer to Damascus airport for departure.
