Cyprus Walking and Culture Journey – 8 days

  • ITINERARY

    Day 1:
    Arrive Paphos Airport,  Meet and assistance with transfer to hotel in Paphos for overnight stay

    Day 2:  Akamas Peninsula trail – Boat trip.  Visit the Akamas Peninsula National Park, walk along the Aphrodite Trail, takes in wonderful coastal views 8km (2hrs-2.5hrs)
    Lunch at local restaurant.
    Afternoon enjoy a boat trip from Latchi Fishing harbour, along the coast with views of Akamas Peninsula National Park to the stunning Blue Lagoon.
    Return to hotel in Paphos

    Day 3: Troodos Mountain walking – Kykkos Monastery – Pedoulas
    Depart to the Troodos foothills, the open countryside that rises towards the heights of Troodos massif. Explore Kykkos Monastery and the tomb of Makarios, the first president of the Cyprus Republic.
    Follow the Persephone walking trail, which leads us through a lofty pine forest to one of the most spectacular viewpoints on Cyprus. We end exploring the village of Pedoulas and the UNESCO heritage 14th century church of Archangel Michael. We end at the next village of Kalopanayiotis, where we will stay for the next 4 nights.

    Day 4: Kalopanayiotis Walking Tour & UNESCO heritage church of St John Lampadistis
    Enjoy a local walking tour, stroll around the village with a friendly local guide. Visit abandoned water mill, taste the natural sulphur-spring water, marvel at the wonderful frescoes of St John Lampadistis monastery and learn about the miraculous tree at Theoskepasti Chapel and continue exploring the nature trails in the area.
    Afternoon visit a Bee & Honey workshop of which the Marathasa valley is famed for its fragrant local honey. Learn about the art of beekeeping from the local villagers and find out what makes the honey so special. Also visit a basket weaving workshop, which a skillful basket weaver will teach you this ancient art of Cyprus.

    Day 5: Village Food & Wine Tour – Orchards & Local delicacies
    Today we will be shown around the village orchards and pick a basket of seasonal fruit. Enjoy a glass of homemade lemonade under the cool of the olive trees. Find out how traditional delicacies have been prepared for centuries in the traditional Marathasa style with a visit to a local cottage industry making soutzouko, honeyed nuts or pastelaki.
    In the afternoon, we learn how to make the famous Cypriot Halloumi (Cyprus Goat Cheese) with local villagers as well as be shown the in and outs of Cypriot wine making at the hotel subterranean wine-cellar, includes a fruit and or deli sharing platter and wine tasting of course!

    Day 6: Kakopetria village – Spoon-sweet workshop
    Venture further into the Troodos mountains today, visit Kakopetria village for a walking tour of the village and its water mill and to Galata village with a walk along the river to the UNESCO heritage church of Panayia Podithou (Virgin Mary)
    Stop at a local shop to learn how traditional sweet preserves are made from a variet of local fruits. Return to hotel

    Day 7: Platres & Omodos village – Paphos
    Depart for Paphos today, via the villages of Platres…. And Omodos village. Photo stop at Aphrodite’s Rock to admire the scenic view of the landscape.
    Afternoon free at leisure in Paphos

    Day 8:
    Transfer to Paphos airport for onward flight.
